The RESTRICT ACT is initially supposed to ban the Chinese owned TIK-TOK from the US.  On it's face, it appeals to the Conservative and middle of the road Democrats alike. Few want any Chinese App spying on their children, who are mostly who is using it.

Of course, the Devil is in the details.  Judging from the breakdowns I've seen, this is a huge demonic bunghole, ready to belch all kinds of tyrannical caca upon us.  For example, any app with over 1 million users, not just Chinese owned TIK-TOK, but almost any popular app or game, from a browser to Candy Crush, will let a government agent tap into it at will to glom anything from transactions, images, communications both public and 'private', lists of associates/contacts, you name it.   Even live and recorded images from your Amazon 'Ring' cam are fair game.  All your data R belong to us essentially.

Not only is this against your 4th Amendment rights to be safe in your effects and communications without someone getting a warrant, but ushers in a 21st century Police State the likes of which the old STASI and KGB would be envious of.  In the bill are such 'gems' as outlawing VPN uses, subjecting one to 20 years in prison and/or up to a $1M fine.  This can only be effective if you require an ID to even login, and a monitor program/AI to watch every key you press and who you talk with to make sure you don't criticize the politicians, or nowadays make a joke or pass around a meme about the wrong topics.  I can imagine your behavior online affecting your 'social score', and that will, like in China already, determine if you can travel, use the net, phones, or even what you can buy.  How would you like having little groceries this week because you passed around a few spicy memes to 5 of your friends last week, and they get punished too?

I'm hoping such a thing does not pass at all, that it would be shot down by the courts quickly if it did.  I am scared because we almost have lost the Rule of Law in this country (elsewhere too!).  Two-tiered justice is a sign of corruption, and if enacted, only the party not in power and the independents will be subject to  this.  Combined with a worse  and worse voting system integrity, and you have all you need for the Uniparty to take off their velvet gloves and rule over us for a long time.  'Imagine a boot, stomping on your face forever.' as 1984 puts it.  Q won't get you out of this now, I doubt they will then, when it is at it's strongest.

Tell your Congressthing not to pass it for some of the reasoning above, nicely phrased.  Politicians like power, it is their crack, the wealth and fame are secondary effects.  When they see a mass of dislike for S.686, even if they are for it, they want to be re-elected, so they may back down.  Keep vigilant so they don't attach it to an Omnibus Bill everyone agrees on, so it will pass at 2am on a Friday before a holiday or something.  This is how they do things. Remember most of them hate you 'serfs' and don't really want what is best for you, only what is best for them and increases their power and career, despite their re-election website slogans.  Do it while you can, your kids and grandkids will thank you, instead of cursing us all.
